This music pick of the moment is:

The Louvin Brothers!

The best brother act in country music history…

…if you're not counting the Delmore Brothers, the Monroe Brothers, Everly Brothers, Jim & Jessie McReynolds, the Stanley Brothers, Osborne Brothers, Wilburn Brothers, Balfa Brothers, Rusty and Doug Kershaw, Glaser Brothers, the Maddox and Rose, etc.  Intentionally omitted: The Gatlin Brothers and included by intention: The Flying Burrito Brothers!

From the Sand Mountain area of northern Alabama come Ira and Charlie Louvin!  Having just shared the bill in Louisville the other day with Charlie Louvin, I was reminded of how much I love the recordings of this great harmony duo.  Like many, I became aware of the Louvin's music by way of The Byrds and Gram Parsons but was stunned by the beauty of their original recordings when I tracked them down later on.  Might I recommend the Bear Family box set entitled "Close Harmony" which contains all of their recordings for Columbia Records.  It's expensive so you might want to check your local library for it and start with disc 4.  Mostly in the secular vein, cd 4 is a winner from beginning to end… but don't stop there. The religious stuff is fantastic and that's coming from a confirmed atheist!

I wonder what it's gonna be the next time around?
